Lens Love: 70-200mm

We did this series last year and I added another lens to our arsenal this year and thought I must add it to this series too! So today I am finally doing that!

Today is the fifth post in a series about our lenses and what we love about them! If you missed our full gear post, you can find that here.
Here are the older posts in this series:

MY NEW FAVORITE-85mm

And now on with the new lens loving!!
Today’s lens is one that I put off buying for many reasons. One this lens is SUPER heavy and large. I rented it a few times and I just couldn’t see me toting it around. So, why the change of heart? Every wedding we shoot, we go back and look at it after the full gallery is up and make notes on what we could do better. And last year, we had a common theme…we needed to get EVEN CLOSER! I love showing pull back shots of the full scene, but those intimate close-ups really pull at your heart strings, but they can be tricky to get with a shorter focal length lens. When people see you pull out a camera, they take note and things change, even without meaning to. But with this longer lens, we can truly grab candids without anyone knowing. And it also gives us so much more reach during the rest of the wedding day too. Honestly, this lens is for Travis mostly. He can handle the weight of it and he focuses on close ups during portraits, so it is a perfect fit. After renting it for several weddings we added it to our line up permanently!

Here are a few samples of this lens in action!
