Tips for personalizing your wedding!

I am super excited to share today’s post with you! I asked Kaitlin of Lovely Life Events to do a guest post on the blog about how to personalize your wedding! For those of you who may not know Kaitlin, she is a NC based wedding and Elopement planner. She has some great tips for all to create a wedding that is truly unique and personal to YOU! After working with her on her elopement reception this January, I knew she would have so much knowledge to share! Here a sneek peek from her reception:

And now on to Katilin’s wonderful advice:

Adding personal touches to your wedding makes the big day more special for you as a couple, and for your guests! A wedding full of special, personal details lets the genuine emotion of your love be the highlight of your wedding day.

My first tip for couples is to pick a venue that fits with your personalities. This will help guide all of your other wedding choices to be more authentic and personal. For example- if you find yourself looking at tons of gorgeous weddings at rustic outdoor wedding venues, but you both kind of hate being outside, it’s not the place for you!

Think about your hobbies. Is that anything that you and your fiancé just love to do? Maybe you can incorporate those shared hobbies into the wedding day. If you both love boating, you can pay homage to that without doing an over-the-top boating themed wedding. You could add subtle hints of a nautical theme in the colors you use, the favors you give, even props at a photo booth.
Little details that point back to who the two of you are as a couple add up to make the wedding feel personal and genuine.

Pick food that you love! Wedding reception food doesn’t have to be boring; choosing a caterer that fits with your tastes is a great, and memorable, way to infuse personality into your wedding! In most areas there are a huge variety of options when it comes to food for your wedding. Think about your favorite foods and the vibe that you want for your reception. From having your favorite restaurant cater to a quirky and fun food truck; from freshly baked wood-fire pizzas to a Popsicle stand; the options are endless.

Another great way to add a personal touch is customizing the table numbers- in this case- table names! You can create custom table names out of pretty much anything in your lives that has deep meaning to both of you. A great starting place to help you decide what theme to choose would be to think back to the hobbies that you want to pay homage to, or the places you have lived or traveled to as a couple.
Bonus points in adding personal touches if you add some pictures on each table that relate to the table name.
You can also put little notes from the two of you on each table, or list a different fun fact about yourselves on each table- you can be sure that this will get your guests up and walking from table to table to see what other silly facts you have shared!

Save the Dates and Invitations are your guests first taste of your wedding. Let you personality shine! If it is going to be a formal, traditional wedding you can show that with your stationary, using formal titles and traditional wording. If it is going to be a casual laid-back wedding, let your guests feel that from relaxed wording and fun special touches.
There are so many incredible invitation designers (or premade invitation suites on Etsy) that you are guaranteed to be able to find or create one that fits your personalities and your wedding!
You can even pick stamps that fit with your style; even the littlest of details help to personalize the wedding.

Fancy Footwear! One of the fun ways you can infuse some extra personal touches into your wedding day attire is to wear shoes that fit your personality. For a good many of the pictures, your shoes won’t show, but it can make for great shots to flash a fun shoe from under that gorgeous dress. You could pick whatever fits your personality- studded stilettos, cowboy boots, or leopard wedges. For the more traditional footwear lovers, there are many companies that make little custom shoe decals that stick onto the bottom of your shoes.

Wedding favors are one of the easiest ways to add a big personal touch to your wedding. I love seeing couples decide to give a favor that really speaks to their personality. Some of my favorites have been: little jars of honey with a honey dipper from a couple who kept bees, a CD of the music played at the wedding and reception, and little packets of seeds to plant from a couple who loved gardening.
With pretty much any favor you decide on, you can at least have a customized thank you message, your names, and the wedding date.

I hope these ideas have helped give you some ideas on creating a wedding full of personal details! Just remember- it can be so easy to get swept up in Pinterest and all the lovely wedding blogs, but remember that this special day is about the two of you joining together. As you are planning, always take a step back and ask yourself if this detail fits with who the two of you are. Your wedding is about the two of you as one couple, let your personalities and tastes show!
