I have a confession to make. I am scared of the next parenting stage….you know, raising teens. I feel like I have this baby/toddler/kid thing down pat pretty well. Sure we hit a bump now and again, but I can keep them safe, fed, healthy, warm, etc and I feel good about it. I have been keeping kids for most of my life, so naturally that part of parenting was easy. But as our oldest is on the brink of his teen years, I am starting to feel lost. I have told Travis many times that I just don't feel prepared for what's ahead. But ready or not, here it comes!
So, when Becca called me a few weeks back to book a family session I was excited. I remember photographing their family instantly. At the time I had three young boys, she had three slightly older boys. Their session was one of my favorites back then. Her boys were fun and up for anything. Becca said it had been a while and she needed some new photos for their new home since the boys have grown so much since our last session. I was happy to fix that. I wasn't expecting to find THREE MEN when I got there! They are all grown up! How did that happen? But I have to say, if Becca decides to offer parenting lessons for teen boys, I will sign up in a heartbeat! Her boys were so polite and true gentlemen. They even thanked me and hugged me at the end of the session. And Becca, how is it that you have these grown boys and haven't aged a bit? I need your secrets on that one too! 🙂
After their session, I felt a new peace. I know I don't have a lot of the answers I need yet to start that next level, but after being with those three boys I know the next stage is going to be lots of fun too! :) So thank you Isley family for giving me some peace in my heart and some fun photos of your family!
