This past weekend, we did something a little crazy. Those of you that followed the blog posts this week, may have noticed. But we shot a double header wedding weekend…SEVERAL STATES APART! Yep, you read that right! We shot Amy & Derek’s beautiful PA wedding on Friday and then shot Brooke & Chris’ NC wedding the following day! It sounds a little crazy, but it worked for us for many reasons. In fact, I was on a wedding high after we finished up! So I thought I would share a little post of tips on shooting double headers!
1. Be prepared! Make sure you have MORE than enough batteries charged, memory cards formatted and everything packed up ready to go for BOTH weddings!
2. Drink lots of water and pack snacks! A wedding day is go-go-go, so having a granola bar handy to quickly snack during a lull is a MUST! And water- lots of water before and during the wedding day!
3. Get plenty of rest! One thing that made our weekend a little smoother was that we arrived in PA early on Thursday and went to bed super early. After the wedding Friday, we drove a few hours (to escape any DC traffic) and then spent the night in another hotel only a few hours from our next wedding. We slept in a bit before heading out to the next wedding. We honestly got way more rest because of the travel and not having to “manage” our kids in between weddings (thank you to my mom- best babysitter ever!)
4. Be Realistic! We knew we could take on this because we had shot a double header locally before. I knew that the adrenaline would kick in during the second wedding for sure!
5. Schedule a day of rest! And we made sure we had a low key Sunday after we finished up the weekend!
Bonus tip: Pack comfy shoes to switch to during the reception! Your feet will thank you!
