One of my first “photography jobs” was photographing preschoolers. It is how I learned a LOT about taking photos. The first year I did them, I had no clue about lighting or anything really. So I cringe when I think of those photographs. But we all learn somehow, right? Here I am years later and still photographing these precious preschool children. I have came SO far in so many ways because of this time I spent right here at this school.
There are two key things to get great preschool photos. 1. GREAT LIGHT. The two days I spent there I had one SUPER cloudy day and one PERFECT sunshine day and the photos from the latter just pop because of that beautiful light! If you look below you can literally SEE the light differences. One is glowy and the other looks flat. But despite that, the kids look cute in both situations! Which brings me to number 2. Pull out their personality. I spend 5-10 minutes with each kid. I pull them aside ALONE and talk to them. I act silly. I do whatever it takes to break that “cheese” smile and get them looking natural.
So, enjoy a sampling of this year’s preschool portraits. SO many CUTE kids!!!
And the two cutest preschoolers (I am biased! ha!)
