Today we are going to take a walk down memory lane. I am a very goal oriented person and I work hard to get things checked off my list to get me where I want to be in the future. Sometimes I am so future sighted that I forget where I came from and what I already accomplished. Today a fellow photographer friend booked her first destination wedding and she was super excited and it took me right back to the way I felt when I shot the wedding I am sharing today.
Megan and Chance will forever be one of my favorite couples because they trusted me. They trusted me so very early in my career enough to fly me and my husband to Jamaica to capture their wedding. We spent several days at the resort with them and their family and friends. We captured them swimming, snorkling, the rehearsal dinner, the entire wedding day and then even did a day after sunrise session before we caught our plane back home. It was an experience that totally chaned me and my outlook on this career. I remember the fear that I felt. I had never traveled through securtity lines with that much camera gear and laptops. I feared that my files would be deleted or corrupted. I feared that we would have something broken or lost. It was terrifying! And the pressure of the performance was great too. But it was a motivating great. We shared the photos and video with 300+ people two weeks after the wedding at their reception back home. To watch that many people react to your work for the first time was humbling and satisfying at the same time. Tears were shed, hugs were shared and we left feeling pretty high. I often go back and look at these wedding photos. I of course can see the mistakes and the growth I have had since then. But mostly I just remember how honored I felt the entire time we were there. And I still feel that! Here are just a few peeks from their wedding. IF you dig far enough back, you can find the whole thing as it was debuted FIVE YEARS AGO! I can’t believe it has been that long!
Jamaica is stunningly beautiful! This was at the Ocho Rios Beaches resort.
You simply can’t beat this view for a wedding backdrop!
After the ceremony they had a small reception with friends on top of the resort. It was simple and stunning!
And then on our last morning there, we headed to James Bond Beach to do a sunrise day after session. It was the most breathtaking place and the light was perfection!
Megan and Chance, thank you for allowing me to check off this huge bucketlist item five years ago. It was such an honor! And thank you guys for continuing to support me as I follow this dream!
If anyone else is planning a destination wedding, I would love to come along and document your special day!
