We walked hand in hand. The weather was perfect, warm with a slight breeze that reminded you that winter was still not far removed. As we walked, we talked. Mostly me actually.
“Look at that gate! Oh Pretty”
“Did you see that house??”
“This one is my favorite!”
And as we strolled and I pointed out every little detail of that southern charm filled city, he listened. Each time I would look to him for his reaction and he would be smiling at me. That night after the sun had long set, we found ourselves walking in the cool night air to the dock. One swing at the very end of the row was open facing the water’s edge and the lights from Mt. Pleasant glowing in the distance. We sat in silence, hand in hand, rocking. And after a short while, I commented on how nice and peaceful it all felt. The night air, the slience around us (which is very rare with 5 kids at home!) but mostly the slience within me. We live in a fast paced world full of distractions pulling us this way and that. But for those few hours that evening as we walked or swang, my mind was at rest. My heart was full. And my best friend was right beside me. As we sat in that swing, I talked of how much I loved the Charm of Charleston and he said “I love watching you here. You are happy.” People ask me all the time if we plan to move to Charleston as we love it so much, but truthfully, I am a bit scared! I am afraid that if we lived there the magic of the city would wear off and the stress of life would seep back in. So for now, I just live every moment we have there fully. Soaking in the beauty. Mesmerized by the charm. Charleston, you were so good to us! I can’t wait to see you again in March!
I made like 3 cat friends during this trip too! This one LOVED me! ha!
Want a Charleston session? We have ONE opening left March 17th! Email me if you want it!
