With every single wedding couple I work with, I start off our entire process getting to know them. Why? Because it helps me to better SERVE them. The second part of our process is the engagement session which helps us get to know each other even more. I have a full blog post coming on that topic soon! And then in the wedding day paperwork I ask the couple a few more questions about their wedding thoughts just to help everything as well.
WHY WOULD KNOWING THEM HELP ME?
1. I get a feel for their personalities. I have couples of all types. Some are shy and quiet. Some are fun and playful. Knowing their personality as a couple helps me bring it out in portraits. If they are fun and goofy together, I won’t spend a lot of time on the soft romantic poses but instead give them FUN poses to pull together!
2. I get an idea of their vision. Knowing what a couple wants from their wedding helps me deliver that in their photographs. Tatum wanted a vintage military wedding. I spent time thinking of ways to make their bridal party and bride and groom portraits have that more vintage look.
3. Knowing what you want only helps me deliver it. Nia wanted details and LOTS of them at her wedding. So I knew to devote a LOT of time photographing them all. I knew she cared more about having a gallery full of all the florals, bridal details, place settings, etc than of posed portraits. And I was able to give her plenty of both! She also liked lots of tight crops and more modern poses, so we delivered that too.
To my future brides, don’t be shy! I love being involved and getting to know you all along the way. It really benefits your wedding day in many ways!

YES!!! Client relationships are honestly the most important part of our jobs, aside from the actual photography. If we truly know who are brides and grooms are – it really shows in the photos!
