THE JOURNAL

nineteen

Dear Travis,

I have now spent as many years being your wife as I was in age when we married.  I should feel like an expert right?  I Have been married half of my life.  We should have this thing down to a science right?  But truthfully, this has been one of the hardest years we have faced in all the nineteen.  We have had to take a deep look at how we were living life and make a lot of changes.  Some good, some bad.  But instead of looking back on this year and seeing the things that hurt.  I choose to look back and see the things we did right.  The things that brought us closer together and closer to the lives we want to live.

This year has been the first time I have looked at life a little differently.  I stopped feeling like I was young and had plenty of time to figure life out.  Instead I felt like it had all slipped through my fingers in a blink of an eye.  Suddenly our babies are grown into little men, our dreams have changed and our marriage meant so much more.  For years I thought of life as this check list.  Get married. check. Have kids. check, check, check, check, check.  And I never imagined much of life outside that list.  So when the list felt complete I didn’t know what to do.  But you were there.  You were there reminding me that our lives are entering a new phase and it is so exciting.  It is new and scary, yes.  But there is so much promise and adventure ahead.  We still have dreams to chase and goals to meet and while they aren’t near as exciting at times, they are still so very important.

I thank you for reminding me of that.  For showing me that life can still be fun.  That we can still be stronger together than ever before.  That we can take the mess life hands us (or messes that we create) and still make something beautiful out of it.  We have that power in our hands and in our hearts.

Thank you for your unconditional love.  For your unending support. For your unwavering positivity.  And most of all, thank you for being by my side always.

p.s.- it’s sad that we only have iPhone selfies.  haha!
