Working in Tandem

We stood in the middle of the reception together. The headache I had been fighting for hours was conquering me. My feet ached from the hours of standing, walking, squatting, climbing or whatever else I needed to do to get that shot, not to mention all the walking we had done around the city before we even started the wedding day. Right as we finished up the first dance and had a lull, he ran to the back room to swap my camera batteries for me. Then minutes later he ran back again to swap to my last set of flash batteries as well. He probably walked to the bar about 20 times that day to bring me water or cokes. And then as my head felt it was going to explode and my worry about batteries kicked in, he leaned over and whispered “I will be right back.” He put his camera gear up, walked out of the venue into the cool night. He walked 4 blocks in the dark just to bring me Motrin and extra batteries, just in case (we didn’t need them after all). When he returned with two pills and a coke in his hand, my heart fluttered. You see, no one loves me like this man I have by my side. No one ever will.

I spend wedding days focused on loving and serving my clients. I do whatever it takes to document their day, calm their nerves and share in their joy. And while I am doing that, my husband is loving and serving me so that I can do this job that I adore. Many of you see him by my side documenting weddings but I can never tell you all that he does behind the scenes to make your day come together. Without him, I could never do what we do. At the end of the wedding Friday, we had someone come up to us and tell us thank you. He commented on how hard we work and how well we work in tandem together. And it is true. When I zig, he zags and because of it we create a beautiful work of art together.

Travis I am forever grateful to have you by my side in life and in business. To say you complete me would be an understatement. Thanks for always knowing what I need, supporting me and loving me. Because of you I am able to chase this dream of mine. I see all that you do and I appreciate the way you take care of me.

Our wedding season ended last Friday and I have to admit I am a bit sad. I love what we do. I love being there in the moment with our brides and grooms. I love seeing the details, watching the reactions, sharing in the joy. It is a wonderful feeling. I am so looking forward to all of it next Spring, even though that feels forever far away!
