Finding the Right Fit

I think one of the things I realized early on in my business is that I am not the photographer for everyone. I don’t mean that as a bad thing. It is actually a really good thing. Photography is a very highly saturated market and full of a variety of different photographers ranging in style, price and experience. Finding the right fit can be hard sometimes though. So today, I am sharing 3 ways you can find the right photographer for YOU!

1. ANALYZE STYLE-
When you are viewing an online gallery of a photographer, look at their style. Do you like how their photographs feel? Do you like the colors, the mood, the posing, the overall feel? Do you prefer light and airy or dark and moody. Do you like saturated colors or muted colors or true to life colors? Do you like the way the people are posed? When you view their work, can you imagine yourself in photos similar to those and would you be happy if your photos look and felt similar? Each photographer has a style and what you see is what you will get. Don’t assume that a bright and airy photographer will be able to achieve your dark and moody want.

2. ANALYZE COSTS-
Let’s be honest. Money plays a role. Everyone has a budget for photography. There are lots of photographers in varying ranges of price points. Does the photographer you like fall in your budget? If they are twice your budget, reaching out to them is not going to end well for either of you. Be honest with yourself…if you can afford them, go to step 3!

3. ANALYZE PERSONALITY!
A photographer’s work simply can’t stand alone. If their photographs are breath taking, but your personalities clash, it won’t go well. Take some time to get to know them on a personal level. Remember this person will be with you during some of your most intimate moments of your wedding day! Is this someone who you will feel comfortable with? Do you have things in common? Can you be yourself with them around? If the personality is off with you and your photographer, it will hinder your photographs. Photography is built not just on technique of working a camera, but also of rapport between them and their clients. Choose someone you are excited to work with and get to know as a person!

BONUS TIP- If you found someone who you like their style and personality and they fit in your budget, take a look further into their business side. Do you they post images frequently on social media or their blog? How quickly do they share their work? When would you possibly be able to view part of your portraits? They say FAST IS BEST and if you want it quickly, make sure you take time to find out your photographer’s typical timeline and make sure it matches what you want.

  5. […] Your photographer is going to spend your entire wedding day with you!  You should like them, have things in common and feel confident that they will cover your wedding in a way that you love.  You should be excited to work with them (not just excited about the price).  Get to know the person you are hiring!  A relationship is really important!  Also make sure you really love their work too.  Does their shooting and editing style match the vision you have for your photographs??  See more on finding the right fit here!
