Editing style

One question I get asked a LOT is if I use a certain pre-set or action on my editing. And the simple answer is NO! I actually don’t use any presets or actions at all! Over the last few years I have worked really hard at two things that have changed my work and my time editing…

1. GET IT RIGHT IN CAMERA.
I spend EXTRA time setting up my shots before I start. I shoot pretty quickly, but those first few minutes, I dial in my exposure, set my white balance and make sure that I am getting just the look I am wanting. Taking those few moments before a series of shots saves me A TON of time in post processing and it helps keep my images consistent throughout a shoot.

2. SAVE YOURSELF TIME LATER!
I used to rely on photoshop to magically take things out of photos or fix problem areas. I used to fix bad lighting later. It was a lot of work. Now I work really hard to find good light and a clean background before I even start shooting! This makes post processing a breeze!

Because of those two things above, I literally spend seconds per image editing. I edit in Lightroom exclusively. When I import the images I automatically have it brighten the exposure a bit and add a little contrast. Then I just tweak the first photo of each series to my liking and sync the ones that follow. Here are some examples of just how simply my edits are!

All I do is create a little pop and I am done!

If you are struggling with your editing, it may a lighting or exposure problem. Look at your images and see where the problem lies. Are they too dark? Not enough contrast? Colors off? I bet the problem lies in your shooting, not your editing. I say this because for YEARS I shot without getting it right in camera and then spent hours fixing it later. Photoshop is AMAZING, but it is even more amazing to edit weddings in days, not weeks or months! 🙂
