Ten years ago, Ashley and Josh met working at Rockfish Camp and Retreat Center. Their story begins with the mud pit of all things. Josh didn’t know he needed clothes for the mud pit, so Ashely loaned him some to wear. When he returned the clothes to her, there was a note in the pocket telling another counselor how he liked Ashley. Ashley handed the note back to him the next day and watched his face turn beet red. Once the cat was out of the bag, Josh decided to go for it. He bought her a bunch of her favorite candy and made her a mix tape and placed it in her mail envelope for counselors. They spent their summer dating but agreed to part ways when the summer came to an end. Over the years, they stayed in contact as friends but she was in Pennsylvania and he was in South Carolina. Each time they would chat, they would pick up right where they left off. In 2016, they started talking every day and eventually a work conference put them at a closer distance and they decided to meet up. He spent all day cooking her favorite meal, shrimp and grits, and gave her a gift from REI in a bag that said “Will you go out with me?” From that moment forward they would fly or drive to spend time together.
Josh knew that distance couldn’t tear them apart and decided to plan a fun proposal for Ashley. She went on cruise with her family, feeling sad that she wouldn’t be able to speak to him for a few days. Little did she know, Josh was on board the cruise! Family lured Ashley down to the beach for photos but to her surprise she found Josh there waiting for her. Once she caught her breath, he asked her to be his forever.
These two are just like their story. Sweet, thoughtful and full of surprises. Their wedding day was full of little details that fit them. They asked family and friends to send photos in with their RSVP and they decorated their wedding with them. They were constantly thinking of ways to make their day about others. It was so sweet!
It is very rare that we enter a wedding day without ever meeting the bride and groom. But this past weekend, we walked into the Mim’s House never before meeting the bride and groom. But when we left at the end of the day, Ashley and Josh felt like old friends! It is amazing how technology can make you feel like you “know” someone without ever seeing their face. I am happy to say that we now know Ashely and Josh quite well! It was such an honor to capture their love story!
