The knot!

Happy Monday everyone. Today I have something super fun to share with you all! Truth be told, this has been on my blogging calendar for OVER A MONTH. But for some reason, I couldn’t seem to get it shared. But, I AM IN THE KNOT!!!

I was contacted a few months back by the editor of the knot to see if they could use my photo for their engagement column. I was totally shocked because I didn’t submit it. They saw it on my blog and wanted to publish it! How cool is that?!?! I am thrilled to see it in print and when the package arrived on my doorstep, I couldn’t wait to see it! It feels so weird to walk into the grocery store and see a magazine on the newsstand with my work in it! Super fun!

Truthfully, this isn’t my first magazine publication. I have been in hundreds of them over the years with my scrapbooking work from ages ago. I even had my photos on the cover before. So while it is amazing to see that, this time around was different. When I was working in the scrapbook industry, I would often get emails from magazines telling me what they were needing for their current issue and I would create things to match that. It was my job (or a portion of it) for years. And somewhere along the way, I lost my passion for creating in exchange for payment. And I hated the feeling. So when I started my photography business, I wanted things to be different. I wanted to keep it authentic. I love submitting my couple’s photos. I love seeing their gorgeous weddings on blogs and magazines. But I don’t ever want my worth, or the way my couples feel about their wedding day to come from a publication. Because every single wedding is beautiful and unique. My job is not to create publication worthy photos, but to capture my wedding couple’s day to the fullest. I love making their photos pretty, but I love even more that we capture raw and real moments too! So while I am celebrating this fun feature, just know that it doesn’t change a thing about why I do what I do! 🙂
