Lens line-up

We shared our lens love series last year and had a great response from it!  Today I am breaking down what lenses we use on a wedding day. I get this question a lot, so I thought I would put it all in one place. If you are debating on adding a lens to your arsenal, you can read our thoughts about what we use each of our lenses for here.
PRE-CEREMONY

105mm 2.8 Macro
This is my main pre-ceremony lens. I use it to capture all those bridal details and ring shots. I love the reach it gives me and the quick focusing on tiny details.

35mm 1.4
This lens is used to capture the bride getting ready as well as pull back shots of the invitation suite.

85mm 1.4
I use this for some of the bride’s gown shots (along with the macro for close ups) as well as groom getting ready shots.
FIRST LOOK & Portraits

85mm 1.4
This is my lens that hardly leaves my camera during the wedding day. I use it for all portraits of the bride and groom and bridal party.

THE CEREMONY-

This is on my camera the entire time

35mm 1.4
If the ceremony has an opportunity (like a long song) for me to back up and capture a pull back shot of the entire wedding set-up I use this lens.

70-200mm or 105mm-
Travis uses one of these two lenses during the wedding. He gets those super close up shots that our brides love!

35mm 1.4-
When the lights go down, I switch to this lens to capture the dancing action!

50mm 1.4G- Travis switches to this lens during the lower light parts of the reception (from his 70-200mm).  It works perfectly for dancing and those grand exits!

What a fun behind the scenes look at how you approach a wedding day with your gear! 🙂

Loved reading about this and was looking for that 50- I feel like that is the lens that hardly comes off my camera because I find myself having trouble having room for the 85 except for couple portraits. This was so fun!
