growing season

In this part of the world, this is typically the “off season” for wedding photographers.  There is a lot less weddings and sessions altogether.  And we have a few months without the rush of busyness that wedding season brings.  It took me a lot longer to finally get to that slow season this year as I was still shooting up until last week!  But, now that it is here, I am turning gears in a different direction.

While a lot of people think that this season is one of rest, it is actually quite the opposite!  I like to call these few winter months my growing season.  During wedding season, we spend a lot of time running our business.  Shooting, culling, editing, blogging, submitting, emailing, and scheduling.  There is a constant list of things to work through.  But during the slow months, a lot of those things are put on the back burner.  This time is a gift because these are the months you can really stop and GROW your business.  Look at what worked and what didn’t.  See what changes you want to make.

In the past we have spent these weeks revamping our bridal guide or launching new websites.  Sometimes it is a simple task as tweaking our client questionaires.  Somedays I spend dreaming up big dreams and really putting action steps in place to make them happen.  This time is so important!  So if you are like me and you finally have a little breathing room in your schedule, make a list of things you want to tackle to GROW your business.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1.  Cull through your website images and make sure they are new and fit your brand.
  2. look at one “problem” you face in your business and come up with a plan to fix it.
  3. Educate your clients with blog posts, pdfs, or just an email!
  4. Plan a styled shoot to get your creativity going
  5. Reach out to vendors and team up!

I am working on something new for 2017 and I am excited (and nervous!).  This growing season is going to be a big one!
