2018 Goals

Happy February!  This post is about a month late, but really my “year” is starting in March!  So today seemed like a fitting time as ever to share some thoughts before shooting picks up a ton!

I admittedly am a big goal setter.  I love making list and checking things off.  I also love looking back and analyzing what worked and what didn’t.  I think digging into things can be fun.  I have built this business from the ground up over many years and I attribute the longevity and growth of it to doing these things year after year.  I have been doing this for over 10 years so it would be easy to say “I know what I am doing and just continue the way I always have.”  But I don’t want to keep things the same.  I want to make them better.  I love seeing how each years leads to growth in my skills, business sense and mindset.  I love seeing the way things come together and evolve with time.    As I sat down to look over 2017, I felt a sense of pride.  My work is finally to the level that I always wanted.  I have always looked back and thought, it can be so much better.  But this year I looked back and cried tears of joy.  And truthfully what got me to this point is always pushing harder year after year.  I am determined to look back again next year and see even more growth, but also to remember the journey.  The beautiful moments that added up and made that year.  That is what I am focusing on this year.

1.  Focus on quality over quantity

I am determined to only take on things I truly love and feel passionate about and capture them to the best of my ability.  I don’t want to book just to book.  I don’t want to shoot just to shoot.  I want quality.  I want more of what inspires me and makes my heart race wildly.  I want more mossy trees and couples in love.  I want more of those candy colored Charleston streets and breathtaking views.  I want to leave sessions and weddings and fill FULL of happiness.

2.  Take what I am given and find the beauty.

Life is messy and business is messy.  Everything can’t always be perfect.  I am determined to take what I am given this year and find the beauty in it.  One of my favorite quotes is “blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.”  Camille Pissarro

3.  Connect more.

I want to foster deeper connections with my clients, followers, vendor friends and people I love.  Focusing on the relationship above all else. Making intentional time for those who matter.

4.  Chase happy.

That is my personal goal for my life.  We spend so much time chasing things that don’t matter.  I am determined to only chase things that make me truly happy.   To work hard to find them, make them, keep them and be them.  Life is too short to waste.

Here’s to a great 2018!
